Based on the 2003 International Fire Code, the 2007 Fire Code of New York State has been developed by a broad-based committee of fire chiefs, fire marshals, and members of the fire service/protection industry. The Fire Code extends far beyond maintenance and contains regulations relating to the construction of buildings and facilities. Topics addressed in the code include fire department access, fire hydrants, automatic sprinkler systems, fire-alarm systems, fire and explosion hazards safety, hazardous materials storage and use, provisions to protect and assist first responders, industrial processes, and fire-safety requirements for new and existing buildings and premises.
The 2007 Fire Code of New York State combines language from the 2003 International Fire Code and
New York modifications developed by the State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council and its Fire Code Technical Subcommittee. In addition, administrative modifications in Chapter 1 of the 2007 Fire Code were developed by the Department of State's Administrative Task Group.
The provisions of the 2007 Fire Code of New York State apply to the structures, processes and premises and safeguards from the hazards of fire and explosion arising from the storage, handling or use of structures, materials or devices; from conditions hazardous to life, property or public welfare
in the occupancy of structures or premises; from fire hazards in the structure or on the premises from occupancy or operation; and matters related to the construction, extension, repair, alteration or removal of fire suppression and alarm systems.
The 2007 Fire Code of New York State is intended to provide minimum requirements consistent with nationally recognized good practices that offer a reasonable level of life safety and property protection from the hazards of fire, explosion or dangerous conditions in new and existing buildings, structures and premises. |
