The 2007 Fuel Gas Code of New York State is based on the 2003 International Fuel Gas Code. It addresses the design and installation of fuel gas systems and gas-fired appliances through requirements that emphasize performance. The Fuel Gas Code is designed to meet these needs by addressing code provisions that safeguard public health and safety in communities both large and small.
The 2007 Fuel Gas Code of New York State combines language from the 2003 International Fuel Gas Code and New York modifications developed by the State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council and its Plumbing/Mechanical/Fuel Gas Codes Technical Subcommittee. In addition, administrative modifications in Chapter 1 of the 2007 Fuel Gas Code of New York State were developed by the Department of State's Administrative Task Group.
The provisions of the 2007 Fuel Gas Code of New York State apply to the design, installation, maintenance, alteration and inspection of fuel gas piping and equipment, fuel gas-fired appliances and fuel gas-fired appliance venting systems that are permanently installed and specifically addressed in the code.
Exceptions:
1. Detached one- and two-family dwellings and multiple single-family dwellings (townhouses) not more than three stories in height above grade with separate means of egress and their accessory structures shall comply with the Residential Code of New York State.
2. Fuel-gas piping systems in existing buildings that are undergoing repairs, alterations, changes in occupancy or construction of additions shall be permitted to comply with the provisions of the Existing Building Code of New York State. |
