  • Clear, logical organization makes the content easy to understandand apply to real-world scenarios.
  • Written and reviewed by code experts at ICC.
From the Preface
This publication is intended for the convenience of homebuilders, design professionals, building officials, and others involved in the design, construction, review, and inspection of detached one- and two-family dwellings in conformance with the 2007 California Building Code (CBC). The most important and relevant provisions for dwellings and their accessory structures have been extracted from the 2007 California Building Code and included in a clear and an easy-to-follow format incorporating extensive illustrations, tables, and figures to facilitate a better and deeper understanding of the requirements. The 2007 California Building Code code sections have been provided for reference. This publication is intended to serve as a guide. However, the code and the local building department should be consulted for other requirements and methods of construction.

About the California Building Code
The California Building, Fire, and Existing Building Codes are based on the International Codes, published by the International Code Council (ICC) and other national consensus standards which are amended where necessary for California's specific needs. The base codes for the 2007 California Building Code include: the International Building Code, 2006 edition; the Uniform Plumbing Code, 2006 edition; the Uniform Mechanical Code, 2006 edition; the International Fire Code, 2006 edition; the International Existing Building Code, 2006 edition; the National Electrical Code, 2005 edition. State and local codes adopted and incorporated in the Code include the California Energy Code and the California accessibility provisions found in Chapters 11A and 11B. Note that local jurisdictions may adopt more stringent amendments. As such, it is vital to check with the local building department for any amendments.

Much easier than the CA Building Code February 19, 2009
Reviewer: J. Sorbino from Los Angeles, CA United States
It's about time that this book is published. The CA Building Code is probably one of the most advanced codes in the country if not in the world. As a home builder, there are a lot of information that does not pertain to me. This is a simplified version. I love the color. ICC seems to be bringing up their quality and it shows.
