From the Preface
Many good plumbers today have an excellent understanding of plumbing codes and know how the work should be done. On-the-job experience used to be considered the only training available for a plumbing estimator. This method of mastering the art of estimating proved to be too slow and expensive. Making all the mistakes and learning from each one is too dangerous.

"If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got." It is time for a change. The purpose of this book is to show you a clean procedure for estimating and bidding. With many estimating checklists and forms, this book helps with each step of the process. This book will help you find business opportunities, prepare responsible price proposals from available documents, deal with general contractors before and after the bid, and more. This is not just a book about how to measure pipes and count fixtures. All of the contents are presented in a straightforward, to-the-point, and "no-nonsense" format.

The DeWALT Plumbing Estimating Professional Reference is designed to provide plumbing professionals with the knowledge and tools to make successful bids. It is the perfect pocket guide for on-the-job success. The DeWALT Plumbing Estimating Professional Reference addresses every step of the bidding process, from preparing proposals and making accurate estimates of supplies and labor hours, to reviewing contracts and finalizing the deal. A valuable reference tool, both for use in preparing a bid from the office, or in making on-the-job decisions and calculations, the DeWALT Plumbing Estimating Professional Reference includes quantity take-off checklists, estimating forms, and other on-site worksheets.
