The 2006 International Existing Building Code contains requirements intended to encourage the use and reuse of existing buildings. The scope covers repair, alteration, addition and change of occupancy for existing buildings and historic buildings, while achieving appropriate levels of safety without requiring full compliance with the new construction requirements in the building code.
The 2006 International Existing Building Code provides up-to-date, comprehensive coverage that establishes minimum regulations for building systems using prescriptive- and performance-related provisions. It is fully compatible with all of the codes in the 2006 International Codes Series.
