From the Preface
This is the fourth in a series of four plumbing textbooks suitable for training in an industry or academic setting. The content has been selected and organized to suit students and trainees who have had at least three years of format or on-the-job training. The subject matter progresses on the assumption that students are applying what they learn in a school shop or field environment.

This edition has been written to reflect the latest methods, components, codes, and standards. Illustrations have been included to help readers grasp concepts more completely. Examples show a logical step-by-step process. Finally, there are field applications and extensive safety information.

The curriculum that supports this book and the content itself have been developed and approved by the PHCC Educational Foundation Plumbing Apprentice & Journeyman Training Committee. The committee has endeavored to respond to industry demands for training material best suited to a field-oriented program. It is the combination of classroom and field experience that the committee wishes to promote throughout the industry.

About the Authors
Robert G. Konyndyk is Chief of the Plumbing Division within the Bureau of Construction Codes, Department of Labor and Economic Growth, State of Michigan. Mr. Konyndyk plans, organizes, directs, and controls a statewide license program that encompasses more than 15,000 professionals. In addition Mr. Konyndyk manages state field inspectors, oversees plumbing code development and administration, and supervises product acceptance. Prior to state employment he owned and operated a plumbing contracting firm for 10 years, serving as its licensed master plumber and licensed mechanical contractor. Mr. Konyndyk started from the ground up, so to speak, when he was "buried alive" during an airport excavation his first day in a national union apprentice training program.
Mr. Konyndyk also served on active duty in the Air Force as a computer repairman after working in his father's contracting business. He has several licenses and certifications and focused his formal education on the plumbing profession with its technical merits. He has served on numerous plumbing code committees and in associations such as the American Society for Testing Materials International, International Code Council, and National Sanitation Foundation International, dealing with public health and plumbing issues since 1985. Mr. Konyndyk feels his greatest accomplishment was being one of three representatives chosen to initially develop the International Plumbing Code (first draft Joint Model Plumbing Code) in 1994 as the Building Officials and Code Administrators representative. He enjoys teaching code as a state administrator and has traveled as an instructor to several states for different code groups. His goal has been to contribute to greater uniformity and stability in national code issues.
Edward T. Moore is the author of the Residential Construction Academy's Plumbing Video Set. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Moore is currently the Department Manager and an Instructor for the Building Construction Trades and Air Conditioning Program at York Technical College in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He has also served as an instructor for the Industrial Maintenance and Welding programs. A licensed Master Plumber for South Carolina, Mr. Moore is also the owner of Moore Plumbing and Cabinetry. He has earned the NATE certification in Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps and is currently working on a Master of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering. Mr. Moore recently acquired his HERS certification (Home Energy Rating Services), which allows him to give Energy Star ratings to homes.
Mr. Moore currently resides in Clover, South Carolina, with his wife and three children.
