Changes to the 2007 edition include incorporating material on prevention as a new program element. This edition also presents the latest rules for:
- Emergency management mitigation
- Preparedness
- Response
- Recovery
- Business continuity
The updated document includes major revisions to the listings of resources identified in the annexes.
The 2007 edition is a "must" for public safety officials, corporate safety directors, and anyone responsible for emergency preparedness or business continuity programs.
This edition of NFPA 1600, Standard on Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity Programs, was prepared by the Technical Committee on Emergency Management and Business Continuity. It was issued by the Standards Council on December 1, 2006, with an effective date of December 20, 2006, and supersedes all previous editions. This edition of NFPA 1600 was approved as an American National Standard on December 20, 2006.
The 2007 edition incorporates changes to the 2004 edition, expanding the conceptual framework for disaster/emergency management and business continuity programs. Previous editions of the standard focused on the four aspects of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. This edition identifies prevention as a distict aspect of the program, in addition to the other four. Doing so brings the standard into alignment with related disciplines and practices of risk management, security and loss prevention.
