Description
Master basic mathematics for electricity and electronics with Schaum's - the high-performance study guide. It will help you cut study time, hone problem-solving skills, and achieve your personal best on exams.
Schaum's Outlines give you the information you need to know in a handy, succinct format - without overwhelming you with unnecessary details. You get a complete overview of the subject with plenty of practice exercises to test your skill.
Schaum's Outline of Basic Mathematics for Electricity and Electronics includes:
341 solved problems with step-by-step solutions.
651 additional practice problems with answers.
Clear explanations of basic mathematics for electricity and electronics.
Appendices covering conversion factors, American wire gauge table, allowable current-carrying capacities (ampacities) of copper conductors, four-place logarithms and antilogarithms, and natural trigonometric functions.
Turn to this personal tutor to learn the basic mathematics you need as background for understanding electricity and electronics. You'll build your skills solving problems from following the hundreds of problems with detailed solutions. The handy appendices give conversion factors, a table of American wire gages, natural trigonometric functions and more, making this an excellent reference.
From the Preface
The successful study of electrical and electronic fundamentals requires a certain command of mathematics. The best way to develop such a command is in the context of the subject matter itself, so that the mathematical methods are illustrated by calculations based upon actual problems. This approach, which is used here, not only helps the reader to learn the methods but also adds to his or her familiarity with the electrical principles involved.
The sequence of the electrical material has been chosen so that the mathematics involved starts with elementary algebra, goes on to such more advanced topics as logarithms and simultaneous equations, and finally considers the trigonometry required for working with alternating currents. All basic electrical calculations are covered, so the reader will be left in no doubt as to how to tackle any problem in this area. Because each topic is discussed as though brand new to the reader, the book can be used to fill in gaps in her or his background as well as to expand that background to the extent required. Both British and SI (metric) units are covered, and power-of-10 notation is emphasized. Although the book can serve as a supplement to any introductory text on electricity and electronics, it is sufficiently self-contained to be used by itself.
In addition to the sample problems that are solved in detail, supplementary problems are provided with only the answers given. Working out the supplementary problems will give the reader practice in using the mathematical methods they illustrate and will also reveal any imperfections in his or her understanding of them.
In the second edition of this book, a number of new topics were added, including an entire chapter on circuit theorems, and the treatment of some of the existing topics was expanded. These changes should make the book even more useful to its readers.
