Ever since Masonry Skills was first published, it has been considered the best book available for really explaining and showing how good masonry work is performed on the job. The major reasons for this are that it is one of the few masonry books in print and it is written by a master bricklayer and teacher of the trade. The author has spent his entire life working as a journeyman mason and masonry instructor in the public school system of Maryland.

It is also one of the few books that has been reviewed and approved by the various construction institutes around the nation that are the recognized authorities in the masonry field. This revision has been carefully redone by the author to point out new developments and techniques in the masonry trade and add new, relevant, and important information necessary to train apprentice masons in their goals of becoming journeymen masons.

Masons are highly skilled craftsmen who use specialized equipment and tools to mix mortar, bond materials together to form patterns, and lay out and construct masonry walls and other important features of buildings. In this day and age, this requires both technical as well as on-the-job skill training to be successful.

Once you have learned and perfected your trade, it becomes a part of you, a part than no one can ever take away. The pride that one knows, that we can do good work in our chosen field, is very satisfying and also gives us a purpose in our life. To be really good at what you do, you must like it! This completely revised edition of Masonry Skills provides the necessary materials to guide the student, apprentice, or reader through a secondary or vocational-technical program in the study of masonry basics. It will act as a handbook and guide for the apprentice and as a reference for the journeyman mason in their everyday work. It will also greatly benefit the serious amateur masons who do work of their own.
