Those preparing for a structural masonry inspection certification examination will find this workbook invaluable as a self-study guide or as a supplement to a classroom environment. Successful completion of this workbook significantly enhances the technical knowledge of an entry-level individual preparing for a career in the field of masonry inspection.
From the Introduction
This workbook is intended to provide practical learning assignments for independent study of the provisions of Chapter 21 of the
2009 International Building Code as presented in the Reinforced Concrete Masonry Construction Inspector's Handbook 7th Edition. This independent study format provides a method for the individual to complete the course in a self-disciplined amount of time. Progressing through the course, the learner can measure his or her level of knowledge by using the quizzes provided in each study session. This workbook is not intended to cover the required materials of reinforced grouted brick masonry, plan reading or general code provisions.
The 2009 International Building Code uses industry "reference standards" to complete the building code requirements. These reference standards include
Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures (TMS 402-08/ACI 530-08/ASCE 5-08) and Specification for Masonry Structures (TMS 602-08/ACI 530.1-08/ASCE 6-08), often referred to as the MSJC (Masonry Standards Joint Committee) Code and MSJC Specification. Reference standards also include material and testing standards published by ASTM International.
This workbook is for use by individual or classroom study. The workbook is a compilation of questions associated with the Reinforced Concrete Masonry Construction Inspector's Handbook 7th Edition and the answer key includes page references for the answers to the questions. Although participants are encouraged to attain International Code Council (ICC) Certification for Structural Masonry Inspection, this workbook is not intended to provide specific assistance in preparing for an ICC Certification examination or to anticipate examination questions.
The workbook can also be used for student assignments when integrated as part of a classroom program. The assignments are designated to directly correlate to the chapters contained in Reinforced Concrete Masonry Construction Inspector's Handbook 7th Edition.
The quizzes are designed to encourage the learner to develop the habit of carefully reading specific material in Reinforced Concrete Masonry Construction Inspector's Handbook 7th Edition which is based on the 2009 International Building Code. The questions are not intended to be tricky or misleading. The fundamental format is multiple-choice with true-false questions interspersed throughout the workbook.
The workbook is structured so that the selection can be made for every answer by choosing the best answer for each question. The correct responses are listed in the back of the workbook with the page reference in the Reinforced Concrete Masonry Construction Inspector's Handbook 7th Edition that contains the information to support the correct answer.
