The 2007 edition of the Kentucky Building Code (KBC), ninth edition, went into effect July 6, 2007. Permit applicants will have a grace period until September 30, 2007, to request review under the 2002 Kentucky Building Code or the 2007 Kentucky Building Code. The 2007 edition of the Kentucky Residential Code (KRC), second edition went into effect July 13, 2007. Permit applicants will have a grace period until October 31, 2007, to request review under the 2002 Kentucky Residential Code or the 2007 Kentucky Residential Code.

Unlike previous years, the State of Kentucky is not publishing complete, integrated code books specific to Kentucky. The 2007 Kentucky Building Code consists of the 2006 International Building Code. (IBC) and the specific Kentucky amendments to the 2006 International Building Code. The 2007 Kentucky Residential Code consists of the 2006 International Residential Code and the specific amendments to the 2006 International Residential Code. The 2007 Kentucky amendments to these codes are a comprehensive list of changes, additions and deletions made by Kentucky. The 2007 Kentucky amendments and the respective 2006 International Code are both required in order to have the complete code enforced in Kentucky.

In addition to the these codes, the following codes are incorporated by reference in the 2007 Kentucky Building Code and the 2006 International Building Code. This list does not include all of the referenced standards to be found in the 2007 Kentucky Building Code and 2006 International Building Code. Please refer to Chapter 35 of the 2007 Kentucky Building Code and the 2006 International Building Code for the comprehensive list of referenced codes and standards: 2006 International Mechanical Code, 2006 International Fire Code, 2006 International Fuel Gas Code, 2000 International Energy Conservation Code, and the 2003 ICC/ANSI A 117.1 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities.

The Kentucky amendments to the International Codes can be found here.

The 2002 Kentucky Residential Code and the 2002 Kentucky Building Code are still available.
