From the Preface
The value of a troubleshooting guide increases when it is available and needed. The format of this book will allow you to locate information quickly. The material reflects recent changes in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning.

The purpose of the book is to aid you in your everyday tasks and keep you current with some of the latest facts, figures, and devices in this important trade. It is truly a portable library for use on the job, on the reference shelf in the shop, in your pocket, or in the toolbox.

Many tables, charts, and illustrations are included. They show a variety of parts and techniques often found in present day practice in the field. Obviously, not all related problems can be presented here, since there is a great deal of ingenuity required by the worker on the job. For standard procedures, however, the ASHRAE Handbook gives the numbers and sizes of various types of equipment that is safe to install in a given location.

This guide should be kept within each reach and as part of your tool kit. An effort has been made to make the book useable for classroom work as well as on the job.
