From the Preface
Safety has always been a serious issue in the construction business as well as the industry in general. Safety is both a moral responsibility and an economic one, with injuries simply being bad business. There has always been a legal aspect to safety as well (reckless endangerment having been a recognized crime for centuries), but with the introduction of OSHA in the United States, it has become a very obvious legal issue.

This book covers all the major aspects of safety on construction sites. The most crucial safety threats such as scaffolds, ladders, electrical, and excavation are addresses in their own, individual chapters.

Chapter Four - Worker Safety Instructions and Chapter Nine - Company Safety Plan are unique in that they can be copied, enlarged, and used in daily operations. I think that this will prove to be highly beneficial, especially to smaller contractors who do not have the time and money to put together programs from scratch.

I have also included a glossary with all the major construction and OSHA terms, plus necessary conversion factors.

Naturally, there may be some aspects of job site safety and/or OSHA requirements that I have not covered in sufficient depth for some readers. I will update this book on a continual basis and will attempt to include material suggested by readers and keep pace with developments in the trades.
