The Contractor's Guide to the Plumbing Code is designed to familiarize contractors with code requirements of the 2003 International Plumbing Code (IPC). It is written for the busy professional, whose goal is to provide a safe and affordable plumbing system that meets the minimum requirements
of the International Plumbing Code. The "Contractor's Guide" is not a substitute for the code; it is designed to be used alongside the code and to
simplify many of its provisions by supplying explanations and illustrations.
Chapter One sets the stage by detailing an overview of the history, development and scope of the International Plumbing Code. Chapter Two provides
key definitions of terms used in the code. Required documentation, permit issuance and alternative materials and methods of construction are
discussed in Chapter Three. Issues related to conventional drain, waste and vent systems, such as sizing of the drainage system, venting and installation
