This new edition of Carpentry and Building Construction builds on the updated information presented in the previous edition. The text retains its strong focus on the many new tools, materials, and techniques now being used in the residential construction industry and emphasizes careful work habits and attention to building codes. For example, the text provides information on metal framing connectors, glulams and wood I-beams, pneumatic nailers and staplers, plate joiners, ceramic tiles, and mechanical systems. School-to-work activities are now included at the end of many units. New appendices provide information on metric construction, math concepts, science concepts, employability skills, and communication skills.
Building a house calls for a great variety of materials. This book includes discussions of many of them—in particular, poured concrete, brick-veneer, and concrete masonry units, However, wood remains the basic material for most homes built in the United States. For this reason, Carpentry and Building Construction includes a wealth of detailed information on this subject.
