Description Table of Contents

For courses in Computer-Aided Design, Computer Graphics, Architectural Graphics, CAD for Interior Design, CAD for Space Planning, Computer-Aided Design and Graphics and Introduction to Computer Graphics.

Organized around architectural projects, AutoCAD for Interior Design and Space Planning gives students an understanding of the commands and features of AutoCAD 2008 and demonstrates how to use the program to complete interior design and space planning projects. Building on twelve years of updates, the book is appropriate for self-paced and lecture classes and covers both two-dimensional and three-dimensional drawings.

Throughout the exercises in this book, numbered steps in bold type provide instructions. Prompt and Response columns in the numbered steps provide step-by-step instructions for starting and completing a command. The Prompt column text repeats the AutoCAD prompt that appears in the Command: area of the AutoCAD screen. The Response column text shows your response to the AutoCAD prompt. Blue ruled lines separate the numbered steps from further discussion and explanation. Menus in the margin notes show you how to locate the command you are using.

Using numerous illustrations, the text captures the essence of this powerful program and the importance it plays in the interior design, architecture and space planning professions.

Features:
Progresses from basic commands to complex drawing exercises.
  • Builds confidence and basic skills before moving on to more complex assignments.
  • Ensures students have mastered the fundamental features and commands of the AutoCAD program before they apply it to more complex problems.
  • Guides readers step-by-step through each new AutoCAD command.
  • Encourages students to learn commands and features on their own.
Provides over 90 exercises.
  • Gives students the opportunity to work with a variety of real-world situations, including both commercial and residential projects.
Highlights seven projects appropriate for interior design, space planning and architecture students.
  • Highlights seven projects - a tenant space, hotel room, wheelchair accessible residential bathroom, wheelchair accessible commercial bathroom, log cabin, house and bank.
  • This includes the project floor plans, dimension plans, elevations, furniture plans, reflected ceiling plans and voice/data/power plans, as well as isometric drawings and a presentation sheet that combines multiple plans.
Includes over 500 figures.
  • Helps the student by allowing them to compare their work and progress with the many figures available.
  • Shows many drawings to scale so students can assess and check their understanding of chapter material.
Introduces the AutoCAD Design Center.
  • The Design Center is used in Chapter 7 to import blocks, and again in Chapter 10 to import blocks, layers, and dimension styles from other drawings into existing drawings. 3D objects from the Design Center are used in Chapters 14 and 15.
Covers solid modeling in two separate chapters.
  • Splits solid modeling material into two chapters: Chapter 14, Solid Modeling of Simple Shapes and Chapter 15, Complex Solid Models with Materials, Lighting, Rendering, and Plotting.
  • Uses the 3Dwalk command to create walk-through presentations.
New to this Edition:
New Topics – Fully updated material reflects the AutoCAD 2008 program and includes:
  • Command prompts and margin art have been updated to reflect the AutoCAD Release 2008.
  • Two new exercises – a wheelchair accessible residential bathroom, and a wheelchair accessible commercial bathroom have been added to the project chapters.
  • The new annotation scale setting that affects annotative objects such as text, dimensions, hatches, blocks and attributes is used and described.
  • The new multileader style and multileader command is examined.
  • The new enhanced table style is described.
  • The new override layer properties used in paper space viewports is discussed.
  • The new multi-columns MTEXT improvements are used.
  • The improved lighting and materials capabilities are described in the solid modeling chapters.
