| Filled with practical advice and facts, the American Electricians' Handbook is the best single source for essential information on designing, installing, operating, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment.
Revised and updated in compliance with the most recent National Electrical Code and National Electrical Safety Code, as well as the current standards of NEMA, the American National Standards Institute, and the Underwriter's Laboratories, this one-stop reference enables you to tackle even the most complex job with total confidence.
Using the clear language and diagrams that have made the Handbook the industry's definitive resource, the expanded Fourteenth Edition brings you the latest data on:
- Advances in fiber optic cables, grounding, arc-fault circuit-interrupter devices, and transient voltage surge suppressors
- The National Electrical Code, the National Electrical Safety Code, and NEMA motor and generator standards
- High-efficiency motors and electronic control of motors
- Circuits and circuit calculations, transformers, wiring tables, lamp application tables, and much more
From the Preface:
The Fourteenth Edition of the American Electrician's Handbook is entirely and carefully revised and expanded consistent with advances of the art and the
latest good practice, and in accordance with the latest requirements of the 2002 National Electrical Code. A great deal of new material, including tables,
illustrations and photographs, are included.
The original purpose of the Handbook has been retained, that is, to provide a compilation of data and information on the various types of equipment and
conductors presented without advanced mathematics so as to be as useful as possible to the average electrical person. In many cases much of the basic
principles stated herein are widely utilized by apprenticeship and electrical inspector training classes. Assurance is given that what the user wants is
not an encyclopedia of the manufacturer product lines but an orderly and accessible collection of working tool information otherwise scattered throughout other technical literature.
The NEC has gone to a hard conversion of all imperial measurements so that metric measurements are stated first and imperial values follow in parentheses. The text of the Handbook reflects this policy in every instance where code text is used. Flexible cords and cables have new Types G-GC, NISP-1, NISP-2, Nispe-1, NISPE-2, NISPT-1, and NISPT-2 that are reflected in the text. Conductor insulation Type RH is no longer manufactured. One of the most significant advances in electrical safety is the broad range of arc-fault circuit interrupters that are now available. These devices are now required for all bedroom circuits in dwelling units.
