Based on the 2009 Uniform Plumbing Code, the 2009 Uniform Plumbing Code Illustrated Training Manual is both a primer for novices and a reference manual for experienced Journeymen and inspectors. It contains hundreds of charts and illustrations (in color), a plumbing dictionary and a checklist for inspectors.

IAPMO is proud to present this 2009 edition of the Uniform Plumbing Code Illustrated Training Manual. This edition represents the latest in a long line of Illustrated Training Manuals published by IAPMO for the Uniform Plumbing Code and introduces a feature new to this publication. For the first time since its inception this Illustrated Training Manual contains the entire 2009 Uniform Plumbing code as developed and published through the ANSI consensus process.
With the addition of the code text the format has changed slightly as well. Following each code section, or subsection, there is a narrative which attempts to respond to one or more questions which code users may have, such as: Why does the code require this?; What is the history of this code section?; How should this be inspected?; and What happens if this section is violated?
Historically, the development of the Uniform Plumbing Code Illustrated Training Manual has been the responsibility of an IAPMO committee. For this edition the 2007 and 2008 Education Committees shouldered the burden of reviewing the narrative provided by others to ensure technical accuracy.
This publication has many uses. Its value lies in its use as a reference document or a training document. However, care should be taken by users to differentiate between the code text and the narrative and remember that the narrative is not code, has not been legally adopted, and should not be applied as such.
