Based on the 2003 International Plumbing Code, the 2007 Plumbing Code of New York State presents consistent requirements that provide comprehensive regulation of plumbing systems, setting minimum regulations for plumbing facilities in terms of both performance and prescriptive objectives. The Plumbing Code provides for the acceptance of new and innovative products, materials and systems.
The 2007 Plumbing Code of New York State combines language from the 2003 International Plumbing Code and New York modifications developed by the State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council and its Plumbing/Mechanical/Fuel Gas Codes Technical Subcommittee. In addition, administrative modifications in Chapter 1 of the 2007 Plumbing Code of New York State were developed by the Department of State's Administrative Task Group.
The 2007 Plumbing Code of New York State is intended to provide minimum requirements to safeguard life and limb, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction, installation, quality of materials, location, operation and maintenance or use of plumbing equipment and systems.
The provisions the 2007 Plumbing Code of New York State apply to the erection, installation, alteration, repairs, relocation, replacement, addition to, use or maintenance of plumbing systems. This code also regulates nonflammable medical gas, inhalation anesthetic, vacuum piping, nonmedical oxygen systems and sanitary and condensate vacuum collection systems. The installation of fuel gas distribution piping and equipment, fuel gas-fired water heaters and water heater venting systems is regulated by the Fuel Gas Code of New York State.
