Los alcances de este código cubren todo tipo de edificaciones excepto unidades de vivienda de tres pisos para una y dos familias, y casas contiguas (townhouses). Este código integral contiene conceptos de seguridad probados en el tiempo, disposiciones estructurales, de seguridad de vida y protección contra incendios que abarcan salidas de emergencia, requerimientos para acabado de interiores, disposiciones integrales para techos, disposiciones de ingeniería sísmica, nuevas tecnologías de la construcción, clasificaciones de uso o destino, y las más modernas normas de la industria en materiales de diseño.
