From the Preface
The International Code Council is proud to introduce this updated question and answer application guide dedicated exclusively to the nonstructural provisions of the 2006 International Building Code. The questions presented in this document, 2006 IBC Nonstructural Q&A - Application Guide, are commonly asked questions that arise in the application of the 2006 IBC code provisions during design, plan review, construction and daily code enforcement. Many of the answers include helpful illustrations (not drawn to scale), which provide a clear understanding of both the intent and meaning of the code text. This document is an essential resource for anyone involved with the IBC nonstructural provisions, including architects, inspectors, building officials, plans examiners, structural engineers, civil engineers, instructors and students.
Excerpts of International Building Code text are reprinted for easy reference, followed by questions and answers pertaining to the particular section. This allows for quick reference to questions and answers on specific code sections.
An index of the Q&As is located at the back pages of the guide. The index allows the user to find each Q&A that relates to a particular code section wherever it is found in this guide. Each Q&A is followed by a number in brackets, e.g., [8-4]. The first number in the pair refers to the Chapter; the second number is the Q&A sequential number for that chapter. Therefore, if the index lists Q&A [10-103] after IBC Section 308.1, that Q&A will be Q&A #103 in Chapter 10.
