The 2000 Uniform Fire Code/2006 International Fire Code Comparison and Cross-Reference provides a comparative analysis between the nonstructural provisions of the 2000 Uniform Fire Code (UFC) and the 2006 International Fire Code (IFC). Code sections, tables and figures from the IFC are listed sequentially with an analysis of comparison to the UFC. The Cross Reference section allows you to quickly and easily locate the 2006 International Fire Code section numbers for similar provisions found in the Uniform Fire Code.
Excerpt from the Preface
The purpose of UFC-IFC (2000-2006) Comparison and Cross Reference is to provide those familiar with the Uniform Fire Code (UFC) a transition guide to the provisions of the 2006 IFC. The comparative analysis will familiarize fire officials, plans examiners, inspectors, design professionals, contractors, and others in the construction industry with the significant differences between the two codes and the resulting changes in application. The 2006 IFC sections and tables are arranged sequentially with an analysis of comparison to the 2000 UFC. This document is not intended to identify every difference or to compare every section of the two codes, but to present significant changes and information deemed most helpful in the transition to the IFC. The cross reference directory listing the UFC sections in sequential order provides the reader with a quick road map to the corresponding sections of the IFC. This publication may also be used as a plan checking and field inspection aid to provide a better understanding of the many revisions and differences between the 2000 UFC and 2006 IBC.
The means of egress analysis of this publication contains numerous references to the 1997 UBC and 2006 IBC to explain provisions that fire officials are now expected to be more familiar with as a result of a philosophical difference in approach between the UFC and the IFC. The difference in approach is that the UFC means of egress provisions are limited to maintenance of means of egress and rely on the building code provisions for the design and other elements of the means of egress, whereas the IFC means of egress mirrors those in the IBC and also contains the maintenance provisions. This is because both fire officials and building officials are involved in new construction. |
