The 2000 International Urban-Wildland Interface Code regulates both land use and the built environment in designated urban-wildland interface areas. The International Urban-Wildland Interface Code is the only model code that bases construction requirements on the severity of fire hazard to which structures are exposed.
Developed under a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, this code is the direct result of hazard mitigation meetings held after devastating wildfires. Topics include urban-wildland interface area designation, access, defensible space, water supply, fire-protection requirements, special building construction regulations and land use provisions. |
