This edition of the SBCCI Standard Building Code Commentary is based on the 1999 Standard Building Code, published by the Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc. The commentary is intended to assist users of the Code who seek direction in interpreting various provisions of the code or just want a better understanding of its provisions. The commentary is advisory in nature. Readers are cautioned to remember that there is usually more than one way to interpret many of the code provisions. There is also a special code section (103.7) that allows the use of alternate materials and methods that provide equivalent safety. Final responsibility for interpretation rests with the local authority having jurisdiction.
The 1999 Standard Building Code has been reproduced in its entirety. Code sections are printed in COLOR, while appropriate commentary and illustrations are printed in BLACK.
The Standard Building Code Commentary is NOT intended to be adopted by reference through statute or enforced by state and local governmental agencies, or others. |
