| The Model Energy Code was originally developed jointly by the Building Officials and Code Administrators International (BOCA), International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO), National Conference of States on Building Codes and Standards (NCSBCS), and the Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI), under a contract funded by the United States Department of Energy.
This comprehensive energy code establishes minimum regulations for energy efficient buildings using prescriptive and performance-related provisions. It is founded on broad-based principles that make possible the use of new materials and innovative techniques that conserve energy.
This commentary provides thorough coverage of many issues likely to be dealt with when using the Model Energy Codeand then supplements that coverage with historical and technical background. Also included are comprehensive examples of methods of determining compliance with the Model Energy Code.
The commentary is divided into two main parts: Part 1 provides an overview of the Model Energy Code, with an emphasis on explaining the primary requirements in a concise form. Part 2 includes the full text of each section, table and figure in the code, immediately followed by commentary applicable to that section. |
